It might come as a surprise that we would choose a video like this for a blog post, but believe it or not, human longevity (i.e. how long we live) advancements will have a profound impact on all industries. Not the least of which is real estate. In this video, Walker & Dunlop CEO Willy Walker speaks with renowned economist Dr. Peter Linneman and Dr. Michael Roizen, author of “The Great Age Reboot: Cracking the Longevity Code for a Younger Tomorrow.” Below are a few of our top takeaways from this discussion:

  • We control 80% of our genetic settings through ‘self-engineering.’ That is, what we consume and how we live has the power to control 80% of our DNA. That settles the nature vs. nurture debate!
  • The experts have discovered 6 keys to longevity and youthfulness. They are:
    • Stress management – “friends, a posse, and a purpose”
    • Food – quality, portion size, and time you eat matters
    • Physical activity – workouts should include jumping on hard surfaces
    • Avoid “unforced errors” – tobacco, vaping, texting while driving
    • Sleep & brain health
    • Supplements – creatine was mentioned
  • Thanks to medical and technological advancements today, we have made huge strides in terms of longevity. Today, someone who is 25 is expected to live 100 years of additional life if they take care of themselves while someone who is 45 has 75 years of additional life expectancy!
